Instructional Philosophy:

Students will be expected to meet course goals listed below and will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the required competencies. Students will be held to safety and quality standards expected on the job.

Program Goals:

The Goals of the Fire Service Academy is to provide students with the opportunities to learn entry- level skills in the areas of Fire Science, and Emergency Care by providing opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed to be successful in obtaining a civil service Position.

The Course Goals:

The goals of this course is to cover the requirements needed for students to enter the field of Fire Fighting by assisting them in understanding the components of fire prevention, sprinkler systems, fire control, loss control, hazardous materials, health and human relations, and first responder. The purpose of this course is to specify, in terms written test and performance objectives, the minimum requirements for professional service as a fire fighter.

Description:

This is an entry-level course for fire fighters. We will be teaching the same materials that are taught at most fire colleges. The course consists of a combination of classroom study, drill field practice and training that will prepare the fire fighter to perform most fire ground functions. Medical first responder will be taught as part of this course.  The course will be using 6th Edition of Essentials to Firefighting same course taught at the Alabama Fire College.

Class Participation:

This course will involve discussion, questions and answers on the materials, and case study. Class participation is expected from all students. Students need to bring pencil or pen along with paper to take notes.

Safety:

Safety of the student is top priority to the Fire Service Academy. Students must adhere to safety regulations while attending a class on or off the Macon County School of Technology Campus
