The CNC experience at Career Tech Center

March 11, 2013

Federal and State grant dollars have found their way to Tuskegee Alabama with the efforts of Mr. Tracy Stacy, an Agriscience educator at Macon County Career and Technical Education Center. In cooperation with Superintendant Dr. Brooks and CTE Director Dr. Lelia Frank, Mr. Stacy spent 4 days at a workshop this past summer updating his professional development at ACAWT (Alabama Center for Advanced Woodworking Technology) based in Haleyville a division of AIDT (Alabama Industrial Development Training) based in Montgomery.

The Workshop consisted of CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Equipment which earned Mr. Stacy the opportunity to use the equipment during the school year. This opportunity was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Gary Warren with the State Board of Education. Mr. Warren has continued to support Agriscience and educators of Secondary Ed to create new ways of bringing the latest and greatest experiences to the classroom.

Once the Educator attends the workshop, Jeff delivers the equipment along with raw materials. He then spends the next 3 days providing an update for Mr. Stacy in CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) and CAM (Computer Aided Machining). Mr. Noble was greeted at the MCCTEC by Dr. Melvin Lowe III, CTE Coordinator and Mr. Stacy, Educator to start the great experience with his students. Mr. Noble and the educator complete several projects with each class during the three days that Mr. Noble is present (Custom coasters, fabric to back the Coaster along with custom engrave wooden pens.) After Mr. Noble leaves, the equipment stays with the Mr. Stacy for three weeks. The students have an opportunity to machine custom projects while using the X, Y, Z axis associated with math skills and in the medical field with skin grafts, textile industries cutting fabric, measurements, material size, thickness and fractions. Science is incorporated by using a Penn State Air Mover. Most students enjoy the opportunity of working on the computer with CAD and CAM along with developing a custom project from inception t o completion that is completely unique.  The students are engaged and excited throughout the CNC experience.

The students really enjoyed working with the programs and having the ability to design and fabricate their own creations. I look forward to providing this and more opportunities similar to this one for my students in the future.

Eco-Magician to Visit Macon County

March 07, 2013

Eco-Magician Paul Cash to Visit Tuskegee Public School

Eco-Magician Paul Cash will visit Tuskegee Public School on Monday, March 11, 2013. While there, he will put on an amazing show by teaching and reinforcing several science standards through the use of magic and humor.  Mr. Cash's goals will be to change the students' behaviors toward the environment and help them reconnect with their environment.  Not only will our students learn about how they can help the environment, but the magic will foster a positive "can-do" attitude towards the environment.

Paul Cash began performing "magic with an environmental message" in 1994. In 1997 he was featured in National Geographic for his Environmental Magic Show and has since touched the lives of thousands of children.

Eco-Magician Cash was initially scheduled to perform at the 1st Annual Macon County Water Festival sponsored by the Macon County Forestry Planning Commission but will not be able to attend.  A special thanks is extended to Leisa Puckett with the Utilities Board of Tuskegee for assisting with the coordination of the event.
