
Summer School Programs Held at George Washington Carver Elementary School
Macon County Schools is proud to be the host of several fun-filled and enrichment summer programs this year. Ms. Melissa Williams, Principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School, agreed early on in April to allow the programs to be held at the school, serving students grades K-8. Each wing is filled with excited staff and students every day. This year's programs include Macon County Schools very own Camp Literacy for Kids... Where Being in the "CLK" is Cool, Alabama Rural Ministries - Sonshine Kids Day Camp, the City of Tuskegee's Summer Day Camp (a replacement of the local YMCA's summer program), and the "SMART" Kids Camp.
If one takes a visit to George Washington Carver Elementary, it is clearly evident that the programs have been well-coordinated between the school, the district, and the agencies. You will find that all students are well-engaged and having tons of fun! Camp Literacy for Kids
Camp Literacy for Kids is a district-wide initiative that provides an opportunity for students currently in grades K through 3 to receive explicit reading instruction and/or reading intervention. Students will enjoy educational activities, arts and crafts, and various field activities.
Sonshine Kids Day Camp
Alabama Rural Ministry is beginning another fun and exciting year with the Tuskegee Sonshine Kids Day Camp. Some of the activities children will enjoy during the camp are Bible stories, educational activities, arts and crafts, recreation, and various field trips.
SMART Kids Camp
SMART (Science, Math, Art, Reading ,Technology and Engineering) Kids Camp is co-sponsored by the Tuskegee University College of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences, Tuskegee Area Health Education Center, and Washington Chapel AME Church. SMART Camp is beginning its 9th year of providing a unique, integrated summer science camp to the Macon County Community. The camp provides hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage an early love and appreciation for science and science-related careers. SMART camp is a non-profit organization of the Louise O. Newman Center for Learning.
City of Tuskegee's Summer Day Camp
The City of Tuskegee's Summer Day Camp is geared towards every participant receiving an enriching experience through a variety of recreational games and activities. Participants are expected to experience a summer full of lifetime memories.
Seamless Summer Food Service Program
Breakfast and lunch will be provided to summer school participants and others within the community, compliments of the Seamless Summer Food Service Program operated by the Macon County School Nutrition Program. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., and lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you have any questions regarding the summer feeding program, you may contact Mrs. Emma Wilson-James at 334.727.1600.
