Macon County Schools
A Moment Of Silence
WRITTEN BY Melvin Lowe ON December 21, 2012

Students, Educators, Support Staff, and Administrators at the Career and Technical Education Complex in Macon County Public School System all paused for a Moment of Silence. Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Mallory has signed a proclamation declaring Friday;December 21, 2012 a "Day of Mourning" in recognition of their recent school shooting.

In honor and respect towards the lives lost, families affected, and careers never chosen we pay homage. Students were encouraged to understand the term Tolerance, and how it should be interpreted in situation of discomfort and dysfunction. All were further encouraged to demonstrate greater levels of understanding and compassion towards individuals who display a need for comfort during this Holiday Season.

In closing, students were told that they are valued, cherished, and mostly appreciated for who they are, and the impact that their lives will make on society. Mrs. Verdell Brown, Mrs. Cynthia Brown, Mr. William Turner, Mr. Tracy Stacy, Mr. Christopher Clark, Mr. Jimmy Thomas, and Dr. Melvin Lowe, III were all inter-mingled with the students with crossed hands during this observation. At the conclusion of the moment of silence, all recited the American Pledge of Allegiance. This was our way of paying respect to the families of victims in Connecticut.
