About the Board
The Macon County Board of Education is a five-member elected body responsible for setting policy and ensuring school laws are explained, enforced, and followed. The board is divided into four voting districts, with one member elected from each district and one elected at large. Each member serves a six-year term. Board members elect a president and vice president annually.
Regular Meeting Schedule and Location
School board meetings are typically held at 5:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Most meetings occur at the Macon County Transportation Center, 3806 West MLK Highway, Tuskegee, Alabama. Meeting locations may vary, and any changes are posted under the Board Meetings/eBoard section.
Speaking at Board Meetings (Community Input)
Citizens may address the board during the “Community Input” period of regular meetings. To speak, individuals must submit a written request to the Superintendent at least two weeks in advance. Each speaker will have two minutes to address the board.
Board Meeting Etiquette
Audience members may only address the board during “Community Input” or at the president’s request. Flash photography is permitted only during special recognitions. Please silence cell phones and step outside for conversations.
Meeting Format
Most board meetings last one to two hours. Occasionally, a public work session is held before or after the meeting. When discussing personnel, discipline, or other confidential matters, the board may enter a closed executive session as permitted by the Code of Alabama.

Mrs. Elnora Smith-Love

A lifelong resident of Macon County, Mrs. Elnora Smith-Love attended Macon County Public Schools. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Love attended Tuskegee University. Her professional career has afforded her 31 years as a Macon County Water Authority manager.
Mrs. Love is in her 4th year as a Board Member for the Macon County Board of Education. Although she represents District 3, Mrs. Love states, "I am for what is right and fair regardless of my district representation; therefore, I serve the entire community."
As a Board Member, Mother, Wife, and Community Leader, Mrs. Love feels honored to serve the students, parents, and teachers of Macon County. Mrs. Love is a member of Butler Chapel Methodist Church. She is married to Mr. Eric Love, Sr., and is the mother of two sons: Clifford Hill, Jr., and Eric Love, Jr., the primary joys of her life. Mrs. Love enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
Mrs. Love has dedicated her energy towards making a difference in the lives of the citizens in Macon County. Mrs. Love wants the community to know that we all have leadership abilities. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve." This quote inspired Mrs. Love because she can serve. Mrs. Love asserts that we should discover how great we are by serving our school, community, and country. With this, Macon County will be a great place.

Ms. Mary Hooks

Mary Hooks is a resident of Tuskegee, Alabama, where she is presently employed as an Education Specialist at Tuskegee Area Health Education Center. She serves as Chairperson for the Macon County Junior Miss Program and has served as a judge for several Junior Miss programs in surrounding counties. Mary also serves as the Scholarship Chairperson for the Macon County Retired Teachers Association.
She is a member of several local community organizations, including the local Kiwanis Club, where she serves as treasurer, and she is vice president of the Macon County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beta Xi Omega Chapter.
She is a Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church member, serving as an usher and a member of the Grief Ministry.
Ms. Hooks is a Graduate of Alabama State University with a degree in English and Guidance and Counseling. She was a teacher and counselor for the Macon County School System for 31 years and retired in 2002. She was sworn in as a Macon County Board of Education member on November 12, 2010, after winning the democratic primary and having no opposition in the November 2, 2010, general election.

Mrs. Katy Campbell

Born and raised in Tuskegee, Mrs. Katy Smith-Campbell is a product of the Macon County School System.
Before starting her own practice in Tuskegee, Mrs. Campbell was the supervising attorney of the governmental law section at the law firm of Chestnut, Sanders, Sanders, Pettaway and Campbell, where she was also a partner.
In 1999, Mrs. Campbell was appointed by Governor Don Siegleman as an Administrative Law Judge for the State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA). Governor Siegleman also appointed Mrs. Campbell to the Governor's Commission on Academic Excellence to study and make recommendations on improving education for all of Alabama's children.
Elected to the school board in 2000, Mrs. Campbell served as vice president for two years and president for three years.
At the Annual Alabama Association of School Boards meeting in December of 2005, Mrs. Campbell was elected District Four Director. District Four is comprised of Alexander City, Auburn, Lanett, Phenix City, Opelika, Roanoke, and Tallassee city school boards and Bullock, Chambers, Clay, Coosa, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Randolph, Russell, and Tallapoosa county school boards.
Mrs. Campbell is President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Macon County Chapter, and a Zeta Phi Beta Sorority member.
She is a Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church member married to Mr. Omar Campbell. The Campbells have five daughters and six grandchildren.
