Annalyn's Law

  • Annalyn’s Law is named after a child victim who was abused by a juvenile in Alabama.
  • As a result, juvenile sex offenders must submit an application to all school property and school functions, according to a draft of the model policy. They must also meet with school personnel to create and implement an individualized safety plan.

Erin's Law

  • Erin's Law is named after a sexual abuse survivor.  She was raped and abused by an adult from the ages 6 - 8 years old and then again from 11- 13 years old by someone else.

  • As a result of this law we have mandatory reporting.  Governor Robert Bentley signed Erin’s Law (Act 2015-456) on June 11, 2015, which requires all K-12 public schools to establish a child sexual abuse prevention instructional program for students in Grades K-12 that includes at least four developmentally appropriate lessons building on skills learned in the previous years.

Mental Health Opt In

  • Macon County Schools System provides or sponsors mental health services ranging from awareness and prevention to intervention and support. A new law in Alabama requires parents/guardians of students under the age of 14 to give written consent for their child to receive mental health services at school. For students under age 14 to receive these services, the parent/guardian must complete the Mental Health Opt-In Form.

Note: If you do not opt-in, your child may still be provided mental health services if there is an imminent threat to their health or others. Macon County Schools System employees may use their discretion to determine whether such an imminent threat exists and provide any mental health services they deem necessary under such circumstances.
