About the Board: The Macon County Board of Education is a five-member elected body that adopts policy for the daily operation of schools and sees that school laws are properly explained, enforced and observed. The Macon County Board of Education is divided into four voting districts, and a board member is elected from each district. One member is elected at large. Each member serves a six-year term. Board members elect a president and vice president yearly.

Regular Meeting Schedule and Summary: School board meetings are now held at 5:30 p.m. an usually the third Thursday of each month. The site for board for most board meetings is the Macon County Transportation Center at 3800 West MLK Highway, Tuskegee, Alabama; however, the sites may vary, and if so, you will see the changes posted in Board Meetings/eBoard.

Speaking at Board Meetings: Any citizen may address the board at any regular meeting during the designated period called "Community Input." Persons wishing to appear before the School Board must sign up before the start of the board meeting. Each citizen and/or stakeholder will be given two minutes to address the board.

Board Meeting Etiquette: The only time members of the audience may address the board during a board meeting is during the "Community Input" period, or at the president's request. Flash photography is only permitted during special recognition. Audience members are requested to turn off cell phones and to leave the room to carry on conversations.

The Average Meeting: School board meetings vary in length, with most averaging about one to two hours. Periodically, meetings are preceded or followed by a work session, which is also open to the public. When discussing personnel, disciplinary or other confidential matters as determined by the Code of Alabama, the board may move into closed, executive session.

Mrs. Elnora Smith-Love

Elnora LoveA life-long resident of Macon County, Mrs. Elnora Smith-Love attended Macon County Public Schools. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Love attended Tuskegee University. Her professional career has afforded her 31 years as a manager of the Macon County Water Authority.

Mrs. Love is in her 4th year as a Board Member for the Macon County Board of Education. Although she represents District 3, Mrs. Love states, "I am for what is right and fair regardless of my district representation; therefore I serve the entire community."

As a Board Member, Mother, Wife and Community Leader; Mrs. Love feels honored to serve the students, parents, and teachers of Macon County. Mrs. Love is a member of Butler Chapel Methodist Church. She is married to Mr. Eric Love, Sr. and is the mother of two sons; Clifford Hill, Jr. and Eric Love, Jr. who are the major joys of her life. Mrs. Love enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Mrs. Love has dedicated her energy towards making a difference in the lives of the citizens in Macon County. Mrs. Love wants the community to know that we all have leadership abilities. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve." Mrs. Love was inspired by this quote, because she can serve. Mrs. Love asserts that we should discover how great you are by serving your school, community and country. With this, Macon County will be a great place.

Mrs. Love was voted as vice president of the school board on November 18, 2010.

Ms. Mary Hooks

Mary HooksMary Hooks is a resident of Tuskegee, Alabama where she is presently employed as an Education Specialist at Tuskegee Area Health Education Center. She serves as Chairperson for the Macon County Junior Miss Program and has served as a judge for several junior miss programs in surrounding counties. Mary also serves as the Scholarship Chairperson for the retired Teachers Association of Macon County.

She is a member of several local community organizations including the local Kiwanis Club, where she serves as treasurer she is vice president Macon County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beta Xi Omega Chapter.

She is a member of the Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as an usher and a member of the Grief Ministry.

Ms. Hooks is a Graduate of Alabama State University with a degree in English and Guidance and Counseling. She was a teacher and counselor for the Macon County School System for 31 years and retired in 2002. She was sworn in as a member of the Macon County Board of Education on November 12, 2010, after winning the democratic primary and have no opposition in the November 2, 2010 general election.

Mrs. Katy Campbell

Katy CampbellBorn and raised in Tuskegee, Mrs. Katy Smith-Campbell is a product of the Macon County School System.

Before starting her own practice in Tuskegee, Mrs. Campbell was the supervising attorney of the governmental law section at the law firm of Chestnut, Sanders, Sanders, Pettaway and Campbell, where she was also a partner.

In 1999, Mrs. Campbell was appointed by Governor Don Siegleman as an Administrative Law Judge for the State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA). Governor Siegleman also appointed Mrs. Campbell to the Governor's Commission on Academic Excellence to study and make recommendations on improving education for all of Alabama's children.

Elected to the school board in 2000, Mrs. Campbell served as vice president for two years and president for three year.

At the Annual Alabama Association of School Boards meeting in December of 2005, Mrs. Campbell was elected District Four Director. District Four is comprised of Alexander City, Auburn, Lanett, Phenix City, Opelika, Roanoke, and Tallassee city school boards and Bullock, Chambers, Clay, Coosa, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa county school boards.

Mrs. Campbell is President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Macon County Chapter and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

She is a member of Greater Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church and is married to Mr. Omar Campbell. The Campbells have five daughters and six grandchildren.
