Boeing DreamLearners | STEAM FIELD TRIP -NHS 5TH GRADE
Event: Boeing DreamLearners | Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Program
The Tuskegee History Center<https://tuskegeecenter.org/> and Fred Gray Institute<https://fredgrayinstitute.org/> in collaboration with the Boeing DreamLearners program will host monthly free Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activity sessions focused on hands-on engaging activities designed to expose youth to skills needed for careers in advanced manufacturing. The sessions will feature guest career speakers, hands on STEAM activities, free refreshments, and the ability for youth to earn prizes and swag based on their participation. The program’s target audience is K- 8th grade youth in Tuskegee and Macon County. The program is supported by the Macon County Board of Education, Macon County Commission and Tuskegee University.
The STEAM activity sessions will be hosted and lead by Tuskegee native, Frank R Hatten, Boeing Education Relations Specialist. Activities are based on the award winning interactive STEAM based Boeing DreamLearners<https://weareboeingsc.com/dreamlearners-program/> programming. STEAM activities are selected from the Boeing “Future U<https://www.boeingfutureu.com/>” and “Technovation Families (formerly Curiosity Machine)”<https://www.curiositymachine.org/challenges/> online resources which are free to the public and meet national grade level standards for S.T.E.A.M. All materials will be provided along with prizes and swag youth can earn based on their participation during the sessions.

Tuskegee History Center, Macon County Board of Education, Macon County Commission and Tuskegee University adult representatives | volunteers WILL be present during the sessions to monitor behavior and assist with each session.

Audience: Tuskegee Public School (4th - 6th grade) and | or Geroge Washington Carver School (3rd grade)
Expected participant: ~25 youth per session maximum

STEAM Activity (3rd grade): Create a machine that will spin when air is blown into it, inspired by the thrusters on the Boeing Crew Space Transportation (CST) Starliner spacecraft.
Supplies needed: Straws (2), cardboard, scissors, paper cups (2), paper clips (2), balloons (2), dowels (2), tape

STEAM Activity (4th - 6th grade): : Build a plane that is powered by stored energy from a rubber band, balloon, or spring. The plane should be able to fly straight for 5 feet.
Supplies needed: Cardstock or manila folders, long balloons, tape, dowels or skewers, scissors
Optional materials: Springs, rubberbands, paper clips, straws
