Dr. Gwendolyn Trawick Moore, who was nominated Macon County Woman of the Year for 2010, for her outstanding contributions to education, was born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. She attended Lewis Adams Elementary School and Tuskegee Institute High School. Her post secondary education was received at Tuskegee Institute, earning a B.S. Degree in Industrial Education and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. In addition, Dr. Moore is certified in Supervision of Instruction as well as receiving an ED.S. Degree in Administration and Supervision from Auburn University. Her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership was obtained at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is certified as an Instructor and Train the Trainer in Life Skills, Reconnecting Youth, Adventures in Attitudes and Too Good for Drugs.
Dr. Moore began her professional educational career in the Macon County Public School System as an elementary teacher at Shorter Elementary School in 1968. She has worked as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Director of Career Technical Education, Title I, Chapter I, and Federal Programs. Dr. Moore has served as Assisant Superintendent and, since May 1, 2008, Superintendent of the Macon County School System.
Her community and professional affiliations are most impressive. Dr. Moore is President and CEO of her own counsulting company – Connecting for Success, LLC. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Tuskegee Alumnae Chapter. She served as a Chief Executive of MGN (Making Good Neighborhoods) Prductions. Dr. Moore served four years as President of Tuskegee United Women’s League, Inc. She is President of the Tuskegeee Chapter of National Tots and Teens, Vice Chairperson of the Macon County Coalition for Community Advancement, President of the Tuskegee University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and serves as Trustee, Stewardess and Church Secretary of St. John A.M.E. Church.
Dr. Moore has three children, Benjamin, Khwan and Traron. She has one grandson, Benjamin Neal Moore III, who is attending the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
